This year, we’re again open to any style, but the beer is likely to get to people’s fridges in spring. We are not specifying the exact styles, it's up to you. But think of the kind of beer you can drink in a Melbourne spring day - which could be anything really. You should use the BJCP Guide as your north star.

PRIZE

1st Prize: Brew your beer at scale (1,000lt). You will also receive our legendary HopsAboard trophy mug.

2nd Prize: Lots of in-kind goodies from our brewing partners.

All entries will receive feedback from our stellar judges: Sarah ‘ Salty’ Otton, Rebecca Centeno, Tiffany Waldron, and Kirrily Waldhorn (Beer Diva).

ENTRY PROCESS

1. Complete your entry form and make payment above
2. Ensure you correctly label your entry submissions, including your beer style.
3. Get your entry submission to HopsAboard by the due date: 1 September 2021

4. Tell your friends

KEY DATES

1st June Entries open at our Early Bird rate.

1st July Early Bird rate finishes

1st September DEADLINE: Homebrew entries must be received by HopsAboard before 4pm on 1st September.

TBC Judging and winners announced at BeerMash in Collingwood

JUDGING

A)     Judges will be using the 2017 Brewers Association Style Guidelines, off course 

B)      Judging will be conducted as a blind tasting. 

C)    Judging will be overseen by our panel of judges includes independent and experienced experts. You'll be in good hands

E)      Judges will be basing their scores upon the following criteria:

  • Aroma

  • Appearance

  • Flavour

  • Mouth feel

  • Characteristics of your nominated Beer Style

Regardless whether you win or not, you will receive feedback from our judges.

ENTRY FEES

  1. Entry price as per our stores 'submit your home-brew' price

  2. Entry into the Home brewers competition also includes tickets to the HopsAwards where the winning beer is announced

  3. Fees are non refundable, but your entry ticket into HopsAwards is transferable if you are unable to attend

 

LABELING SUBMISSIONS

You must print off your receipt of purchase and a copy must accompany your submission.

Each bottle submitted, MUST have a completed label. Please see the example below, and ensure that labels are securely attached. Please do not put your name on the labels, yet place your confirmation number from your receipt on the label.

GETTING SUBMISSIONS TO HOPSABOARD

We require 2 long necks (750ml x 2) or the equivalent in stubby per style. Glass or Plastic Bottles are both accepted.

All entries become property of HopsAboard. No entries will be returned.

Deadline – Homebrews can be dropped off to HopsAboard between 9am-­‐ 5pm, Monday to Friday. Please arrange your drop off time with alvaro - alvaro@hopsaboard.com.

POST/FREIGHT

You will be responsible for the freight costs if you choose to post your submission.

Damages in transits will be your responsibility, please ensure goods are well sealed and securely packaged. We'll let you know.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY - RECIPE

If you are lucky enough to win the competition, HopsAboard is able to have full access to the winning homebrew recipe for large scale brewing. It's up to you if you want to release the recipe to the public, we are ok with it either way.
